Scam Jam coming to Meridian May 28th
Idaho Department of Finance Joins Forces with the Idaho Scam Jam Alliance for this Free Conference
Boise, Idaho …. The Idaho Department of Finance is co-sponsoring Idaho’s 2019 Meridian Scam Jam Conference
on Tuesday, May 28th at the Galaxy Event Center at Wahooz, Meridian, Idaho. This popular conference will
address a variety of topics, including Medicare fraud, preventing financial and investment fraud, reverse mortgages,
as well as identity theft avoidance.
The Idaho Scam Jam Alliance is a broad-based coalition of non-profit organizations and state agencies with the
goal of educating and arming the public with the tools they need to identify and stay protected from fraud and
identity theft. The department is a member of the Idaho Scam Jam Alliance.
Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. and the conference kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with opening ceremonies conducted by
Gemma Gaudette, Boise State Public Radio. The keynote speaker for the event is Lawrence Wasden, Idaho
Attorney General. The conference includes a complimentary lunch and refreshments and runs until 3:00 p.m.,
when there will be a drawing for door prizes.

Members of the Idaho Scam Jam Alliance that have joined together to offer this free Scam Jam Conference include
the Idaho Department of Finance, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Idaho Department of Insurance,
SHIBA, the Idaho Office of the Attorney General, the Meridian Police Department, AARP, Justice Alliance
for Vulnerable Adults (JAVA), and Idaho Legal Aid Services, Inc. (Boise).
Attendees will learn how to recognize and avoid exploitation that can jeopardize their financial future. Department
of Finance Securities Bureau Investigator, Kristen Butler, will offer a presentation titled “Investment Fraud:
Tips to Avoid Becoming a Victim” during a breakout session. The department will also have a booth where
attendees can receive free educational information on investments, mortgages, cybersecurity, and consumer finance.
In addition to the Department of Finance’s participation, experts presenting at the conference include representatives
from the Meridian Police Department, US Postal Inspector, Idaho Housing and Finance Association, and the
Idaho Crime Prevention Association.
